Mumbai, Oct (EPC News): In order to improve the connectivity in North Eastern Region (NER), the Airport Authority of India (AAI) has proposed Rs307 crore in the 11th five year plan, said V P Agrawal, Chairman, AAI, in an exclusive interview with our Editor, Vijay Kumar Nair. |

“The works include new terminal building at Dibrugarh, extension / strengthening of runway at Silchar / Dibrugargh / Gauhati & construction of three Greenfield airports,” he said.
According to him the government of India has identified 10 airports for better connectivity, as a pilot project, which consists of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Jaipur, Cochin, Coimbatore and Ahemdabad. For Hyderabad and Banglore, the local authority has planned to construct alleviated roads, which are nearing completion.
At Kolkata and Chennai, AAI have taken up with the state governments to provide better connectivity. “At Chennai, it is planned to have a metro rail link to the airport. This would augur well with massive expansion program underway at Chennai airport, where a new domestic terminal would be ready by December 2010. The Kolkata project too, would be over by December 201,” he told EPC World.
